Workshop: “Proposal to improve lifelong learning training and certification programs for energy managers and energy auditors”

The Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development – Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) and the EU – Viet Nam Energy Facility (EVEF) and Vietnam technology solutions joint-stock company (VETS) jointly organized the online workshop on Proposal to improve lifelong learning training and certification programs for energy managers and energy auditors.

 The workshop was representative Ministry of Industry and Trade; the Sustainable Energy Attaché of the Delegation of the European Union to Viet Nam and the Head of Energy Efficiency component for the EU – Viet Nam Energy Facility (EVEF). The workshop also welcomed 50 participants who were representatives of the Departments of Industry and Trade, training centers, energy auditors, and energy managers from key energy-consuming enterprises.

 The workshop was held to analyze and evaluate the implementation of training and certification programs for energy managers and energy auditors and assess the need for advanced training of energy staff. In addition, through particular recommendations, it has set the condition to determine the next steps for improving the training and certification program.

 During the workshop, the representatives had the opportunity to discuss the application of digital transformation in training and certification, the roadmap for updating training content for certification exams and certificate-extension exams, as well as to share some international experiences in training and certification programs for energy managers and energy auditors.

 In Viet Nam, energy efficiency activities are focusing on the industrial sector with more than 3,006 key energy consumers in 2019; 2,441 of which are within the industrial production field. According to the Energy efficiency law, key energy consumers listed annually by the Prime Minister are required to appoint energy managers certified by authorized bodies and to carry out mandatory energy audit every 3 years. Thus, energy managers and energy auditors play an essential role in contributing to Vietnamese energy efficiency 

To maintain and improve the quality of energy management and energy audit, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and GIZ have conducted research and built a lifelong learning training and certification model in the field of energy management and energy audit. The report has been carried out by Viet Nam Technology Solutions Joint Stock Company (VETS) with the consultancy of Mr. Albrecht Kaupp.
