Present at the VTV2 studio during the talk show on “Energy Audits in Industrial Enterprises”, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hau (Head of Solution Consulting Department, Vietnam Technology Solutions Joint Stock Company – VETS), together with Dr. Nguyen Xuan Quang (School of Mechanical Engineering, Hanoi University of Science and Technology) and Mr. Nguyen Cong Thanh (Chairman of the Board, FBF Development Joint Stock Company), shared their perspectives on energy auditing.

Energy Audits in the Current Context
Vietnam is facing a major energy waste challenge as the industrial sector accounts for more than 52% of the country’s total energy consumption, while its energy intensity is approximately 30% higher than that of Thailand and Malaysia. This means Vietnamese businesses must spend significantly more on energy to produce the same product value.
Amid fluctuating electricity and fuel prices, along with the tightening implementation of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), energy auditing is no longer optional but has become an urgent requirement for industrial enterprises.
Energy auditing is both a mandatory requirement and an inevitable trend for industrial enterprises
According to Decree No. 21/2011/ND-CP guiding the implementation of the Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy, and Circular No. 25/2020/TT-BCT dated September 29, 2020 issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade regarding reporting on energy efficiency implementation plans, industrial enterprises consuming 1,000 TOE or more are required to conduct energy audits.
Beyond regulatory compliance, energy audits also help enterprises adapt to the green transition trend, reduce emissions, and meet increasingly stringent energy and environmental standards from international markets.

Energy audits help businesses identify energy-saving opportunities and optimize operations
“Through the energy auditing process, experts will propose a set of solutions for enterprises, including both management-related and technical solutions,” Mr. Nguyen Trong Hau shared regarding the professional auditing process conducted at industrial facilities.
Through site surveys and analysis, enterprises can assess their current energy consumption status, equipment conditions, and major energy-consuming areas within the factory. Based on these findings, the audit report proposes suitable management and technical solutions, along with implementation plans, investment costs, and priority levels to optimize operational efficiency and reduce costs.
Businesses gain multiple benefits after implementing energy audit solutions
According to the speakers, not only designated key energy-consuming enterprises but also companies with near-threshold energy consumption levels have proactively implemented energy audits due to the practical benefits they bring.
Specifically, implementing post-audit solutions helps enterprises save energy, reduce production costs, and lower CO₂ emissions. At the same time, these solutions serve as a foundation for improving internal energy management systems, enhancing competitiveness, and increasing opportunities to access markets with strict environmental and carbon emission requirements.
Energy management solutions will become a priority over the next 3–5 years
According to experts, management solutions are a necessary direction for enterprises in the current period. Adjusting operational habits, optimizing processes, monitoring energy data, and improving management systems can deliver significant efficiency gains without requiring substantial investment.
In addition to technical solutions, enterprises are encouraged to prioritize management measures such as changing operational practices, optimizing processes, tracking energy data, and improving internal management systems. These approaches require relatively low investment but can deliver clear and measurable results, especially as energy resources face increasing pressure and green transition requirements continue to intensify.
