DETAILED ENERGY AUDIT AT SONG LAM CEMENT JOINT STOCK COMPANY

25 October, 2024

The energy audit at Song Lam Cement Joint Stock Company is part of the “Project to Promote the Market for Energy Efficiency and Conservation Investments in the Industrial Sector and Support the Implementation of Vietnam’s Green Growth Action Plan,” coordinated by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in collaboration with VETS | Energy & Environment.

After two weeks of on-site surveys and measurements, Korean experts and the local consulting team conducted analysis, evaluation, and research to propose energy-saving solutions for the plant. Some of the proposed solutions include:

  • Regular chemical cleaning of the cooling tower;
  • Insulating damaged insulation points on pipelines;
  • Insulating thermal valves;
  • Replacing lights with high-efficiency ones;
  • Fixing compressed air leaks;
  • Installing an inverter for compressor No. 7;
  • Installing a hot air pipe for the compressor system;
  • Replacing low-efficiency compressors with higher-efficiency ones;
  • Replacing cooling tower fans with high-efficiency ones;
  • Installing an inverter for the grate cooler fan;
  • Installing an inverter for the dust extraction fan from the stone conveyor and upgrading the rear filter system;
  • Installing harmonic filters for transformers 57AE01 and 57BE01;
  • Completing the energy management model according to ISO 50001-2008 standards;
  • Replacing the kiln burner for Line A;
  • Using alternative fuel to reduce coal consumption – TDF;
  • Using alternative fuel to reduce coal consumption – SSF;
  • Upgrading the raw mill with a high-efficiency separator using LV Classifier technology;
  • Recovering heat from the SP boiler exhaust gas for ORC power generation;
  • Recovering heat from AQC exhaust gas using a heat recovery system;
  • Installing stream stirrer tubes on the condenser surface.

The total annual electricity generation is approximately 28,898,520 kWh (around 10.5% of total electricity consumption), equivalent to a cost reduction of VND 43,203,287,400 per year, with an investment cost of about VND 517,500,000,000.

After implementing the energy-saving solutions proposed by the Energy Audit team, the company’s energy consumption was reduced by 5.3%.

The plant’s management highly appreciated the feasibility and practicality of the results presented by the consulting team throughout the energy audit process. It is hoped that the proposed energy-saving solutions will serve as a foundation for the plant to explore implementation in the near future, contributing to promoting efficient and economical energy use.
